Colne Radio would like to thank everyone who voted for us at the Wivenhoe Soup that took place on 21 February. We were thrilled to be presented with a cheque for £612. This will help support the community station as we prepare for FM status on 8 April.
Wivenhoe Soup helps to distribute the Colchester Borough Council Locality budgets. Each Cllr is given £2,000 to spend on local projects in their ward.
Cllr’s Rosalind Scott and Cyril Liddy of Wivenhoe decided to stage a ‘Soup’ event. Local groups were invited to give a pitch at the Congregational Hall on Tuesday evening. Colne Radio was represented by Board member Heather.
Residents then have three votes. Some delightful soup was enjoyed, along with local conversations as the votes were counted.
It was humbling to receive such fantastic support for Colne Radio. It was also wonderful to see that all the local projects received some funding.
We would like to thank Cllr’s Scott and Liddy for organising the Wivenhoe Soup event. The Reverend Justin Lunniss and local resident Glyn were fantastic hosts.
The following local groups were kindly awarded a share of the Locality funding:
